I love to read. I read every night before I go to bed. Sometimes I read in the bathtub too because it's very relaxing. These are the books I've read recently and my thoughts about them.
We Were Liars by e. lockhart is a very quick read. I finished it over the weekend. This book is about a family that owns an island. Every summer they family gathers and has tons of fun on the island, until something happens. This book is very suspenseful and have a lot of plot twists! I had a hard time putting it down. It is a very good read! |
Delirium by Lauren Oliver takes place in a world where love is a disease. In this story, everyone gets a surgery around the beginning of puberty. They also get assigned a spouse, how many kids they will have, and what kind of life they are going to live. The lucky ones get fancy houses and a wealthy life, the not-so-lucky ones live on a tight budget. But neither social class loves anything. The main character, Lena, falls in love with a guy named Alex, and that's just the beginning of the story. This book will keep your attention and have you hooked in it's world even after you've finished the book.

The way Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is written reminds me a lot of The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. This book establishes two social classes, the silvers and the reds. These classes are distinguished by the color of your skin. If you have silver blood, you are born with powers and you live in a big city, their life seems perfect. But if you are a read, things aren't so easy. Reds are poor and have to work for everything. Another thing is, if you don't have an apprenticeship for the silvers by the time you're 18, you have to fight in war which isn't something anyone looks forward to. This book has so many plot twists. But for now I'll just leave you with this quote:
“The truth is what I make it. I could set this world on fire and call it rain.” ― Victoria Aveyard, Red Queen |
This story will rip your heart out. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a classic piece of literature about Lennie and George who are in search of a new job during the Great Depression. The bond the two men have is very inspiring, and the way they care for each other is uplifting. This is one of my all time favorite books. If you need a quick book to read, this book with change your perspective on a lot of things.

Girls Like Me by Lola Stvil is a very nontraditional story about a girl in high school who finds herself to be different. She has two close friends that help her face her fears and push her to be more confident. She meets a buy online and is nervous he won't like her if they meet in person. Although cliche, the nontraditional set up of this story will keep you reading. The scattered humor throughout the story adds to the tone of the character. I would recommend this book to someone looking for a quick read.

Although I was reluctant to pick up this book due to the tone of the cover and first chapter, it's captivating story kept me reading, and I'm glad I did. The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides takes place in a strict 1970s household where five beautiful daughters live. This story is a mystery of the five sisters suicides from the perspective of the neighborhood boys who obsess over their beauty and life. This story will keep your curiosity until the end. If you like mysteries, you should read this book! Here is my favorite quote from the book:
"The world, a tired performer, offers us another half-assed season." ― Jeffery Eugenides, The Virgin Suicides |
